Natural insomnia Cures: Six Simple Steps
70Insomnia is a difficult problem that affects a large number of the world population. It seems to affect more women than men and most people have experienced it at least once in their lives. There are many causes for insomnia. Some of the major causes are stress, illnesses, and major event in ones life. Knowing the cause of the insomnia can help in addressing the problem. But there are a few basic steps you can take to fall asleep every night while addressing the root cause of the problem. Here in this hub "Cure Insomnia: Six Simple steps", you will find easy, natural steps you can take to overcome this difficult and illusive problem. I myself am an insomniac who has learned how to fall asleep and stay asleep almost every night using this simple but effective steps. Try these remedies let them help you relax and fall into deep slumber night after night,
1. Remove Clutter from Your World and Create a Peaceful and Restful Sanctuary
First and foremost create a minimalist bedroom or sleep area. A bedroom full of unnecessary furniture is a busy place. It is not a restful one. If possible do not use the space under your bed as storage area. I also recommend no mirrors in your bedroom. The above two tips are a feng shui ideas that was recommended to me by a friend. They may sound esoteric but I have used them for years and they have worked for me very well. The color of your bedroom walls can also be helpful in creating a restful atmosphere. According to feng shui the various skin colors from pale white to dark brown is best for the bedroom.
Your mind should think rest and sleep as soon as you enter your bedroom and nothing else. Many of us live in tiny studio apartment with no bedrooms and not much storage area. In this case you have to do the best you can to un-clutter your sleeping area. The idea is to create a peaceful and restful space.
Removing clutter from your world also means that you have cleaned up and put things away such as doing the dishes and putting them away.
2. Keep Work and Electronics Out of the Bedroom
Do not do any work in the bedroom. Your bedroom should serve only for sleeping and love making. It should not be a place do any kind of work whatsoever. Nor should it be used to watch T.V. or surf the web. I would like to emphasize this point so I will say it again. Do not watch T,V. or surf the web in your bedroom or sleep area..
3. Unwind: Create a Peaceful Space of Time to Relax and Let Go
One hour to half hour before bed time stop doing work that
keeps your mind busy. For instance bill paying or opening mail about you being
late on your car payments are not exactly the most relaxing things to do at this
time. Avoid them like the plague. Let this time be your time to unwind.
Everyone has their way of relaxing, so do whatever helps you let go of the
day’s events, worries, and tensions. I like to read poetry, inspirational, or
humorous books at this time. I wouldn’t read a book that keeps me at the edge
of my seat and is hard to put down. Meditation or prayer is very helpful. Click on the meditation link to go to the hub that will give you more ideas on how to unwind. A meditation instruction is also included.
4. Don't Miss that First Window of Sleep Opportunity
As soon as you feel sleepy get in your bed and go to sleep. If you were relaxed enough you will be out as the light in 5 minutes. Many a time I have stayed awake late into the night because I ignored that first feeling of sleepiness. I was doing something interesting and couldn’t stop. Activities such as surfing the web or playing an exciting game on your cell phone are good examples of things not to do at this time. This is an important point so I will repeat it again. As soon as you feel your sleep coming on get right in your bed and go to sleep! I think many of us suffer from sleep deprivation because we ignore this first signal we get from our bodies. Many a night I have wondered where my sleep went. Just a half our earlier I was fighting the sleepiness. That window of sleep opportunity passes and now you are wide awake and may stay awake deep into the night.
5. Keep the Same Routine Every Night and Every morning
Keep this routine religiously. One should keep the same routine of
unwinding before bedtime and then going to bed at the same time. our bodies gets used to a certain rhythm and if we confuse it with erratic sleep schedule it gets confused and doesn't know what to do. The result is insomnia. Not only should we go to sleep at the same time we should get up at the same time every morning. This way the body adjusts to a regular biological clock and it will naturally knows when to sleep and when to get up.
6. Bedroom environment: Soft lighting and Cutting Out as Much Light as Possible and Keep the bedroom cool.
One of the signals that our body gets that tells it that it
is time to sleep is lighting. If you have bright lighting in your bedroom, change
it to a softer one. Candle light is perfect though it may not be very practical. Just make sure you get non toxic candles. Also before you get in bed close your blinds or curtain. If
possible get a curtain heavy enough to filter out as much light as possible.
The darker the room the better it is for a good night sleep. Also a cool bedroom is very conducive to a good night sleep.
Use these natural insomnia cures and get a good night sleep most nights. For those few nights you just couldn't fall asleep try herbal remedies. For me chamomile tea or lavender aroma therapy works very well. There are other very effective herbs that you can use for a more serious insomnia. You can find out about these herbs at Natural Cures For Insomnia. if all of the above do not work, I simply get out of bed and do some house work or read a boring material I needed to read. Sooner or later another window of sleep opportunity will arrive.
